Life Training + Safety Nazi's

To start with let me say clearly that I believe and don't contest the fact that an indoor cat lives longer than it's outdoor bretheren.

My only question is, by who's definition? Any self-respecting cat would choose the life of fighting,hunting,playing,and fornicating over a few extra years of merely existing.


We've always been told that variety is the spice of life. I disagree somewhat. While variety may indeed enrich our minds it's peril, small or large, that enriches the soul.


Can you remember the feeling of climbing to the peak of the tallest tree? Running across that mean bull's pen? The fear? The acceleration? Not being able to stop? Knowing full well your fate if you failed. Can you remember the feeling when you were successful? Nothing quite matches it.


These are the experiences that are vital to human development.


Risk assessment is a vital life skill. From childhood on, it's mandatory.

Unfortunately, a rising number of young people are being deprived of it by "safety nazi's", a breed apart, who's only goal is to make life safe. Mind numbingly, soul destroying, safe.



In my job as a Project Manager I've given up the illusion that the ability to assess and quantify a risk is a given. If you tell most people a "Hazard Assessment" has been done for the job and have give them a list of said Hazards. If anything outside that list occurs they are at a loss as how to deal with it.



It's not their fault, they were denied entry into the school of Hard Knocks. For their own good of course. From the time they could walk they were adorned with helmuts, harnessess and an assortment of GPS gadgets. All for their protection. Unfortunately to their detriment also.

Don't take me wrong. I think technology is fantastic but it is just a tool. Technology should only enhance, not replace human ability. The skill of critical thought makes everything better.

They banned lawn darts and I still can't believe it. Played them at every family BBQ and injuries were non-existent. More injury came from the "friendly game" of touch football. The darts weren't toys. Used properly they were great fun. Apparently the socially engineered can't grasp this concept.

It's always easier to restrict those who can rather than accept that there are those who can't, and probably never will, measure up. We must ensure that everyone is equal don't you know. Public safety is a wonderful thing it makes us equal.

You can still tell the difference between a city kid, and a farm kid when faced with something new, or potentially dangerous. One thinks through it, assesses and reports. The other wonders who to call to make the decision or goes ahead just to see what happens. The only difference is the capacity for independent thought and judgment.

Within reasonable bounds children must be allowed to fail. That's life. Bumps and bruises and YES even scars aren't the end of the world. Helping children learn to recognize their limits is a gift for life. That includes trusting their gut feelings. They have them for a reason.

Liberal VS Conservative? Difference?

Over the years I've slowly come to realize that, politicans are pretty much the same. They're all selling THEIR agenda (Odd, it never seems to be OURS) and why this, or that, is vital, and how THEY can fix it, given enough of OUR money. So they're pretty much the same...... unfortunately, WE have no say. They'll take what they want. Not what they need.

But I digress. The only difference I see between a conservative and a Liberal is, the almost "addiction like need" to not only have the right to live life as they choose, but the right to force others to follow suit.

Personally I've always felt that if enough people believed a cause was just, they would support it with either sweat or money, if not both. There's no need for tax dollars to support it.

Canadians have always been about, commonsense, compassion, reason, tolerance. I trust their abilty, if given the facts, to decide what's good for their family and the country.

Unfortunately a Liberal believes to the core of his being that, through the sheer force of his enlightment alone, only he could know best.
Anyone disgreeing simply hasn't ascended to their moral, and ethical plane of enlightenment. So how could their opinions be relevant ,or let's be honest, even matter?
